This is one of the cards we did at my Card Clubs this month. It's clever, fun & even easy! I got the idea from our Stampin' Up! Demonstrator magazine 'Stampin' Success. It's called a hinge card. Isn't he (or is it she) sweet?
Card stock - Pretty in Pink, Bashful Blue, Celery, Whisper White, Delicate Dots SAB DSP
Ink - Basic Gray for inside greeting
Stamps - All Holidays
Accessories - black marker for eyes, eyebrows & freckles, SS brads, Mat Pack, Pink gingham or taffeta ribbon, mini glue dots
Punches - small & large oval, scallop circle, 1/2" circle, 5 petal flower (just the tip) for nose, scalloped edge punch, corner rounder
Here are the punched pieces I used.
The whiskers are hand cut.
Hinge Card Tutorial
Here are the layers & measurements needed for this card. **Click on the pictures for a closer view!
The bottom card base (pink) is not fully shown. It is the size of a card base - 4 1/4 X 5 1/2". This card does not really open - just the top hinges up. You could make this a full folded card by changing the card base to 5 1/2 X 8 1/2".
Step 1:
First use your scallop border punch on the long side of your DSP (Designer Series Paper). Then attach it to the blue narrow strip. I changed this from the original instructions. This is my answer to the problem I had with my top layer catching on the scallop edge when opening & closing.
Step 2:
These layers are not adhered together! This is the only tricky part. I did not want the back of my brad to show on the back of the main card. So, you need to place the top Celery piece over your pink main card back & lay the DSP layer over that. The scalloped piece overlaps the Celery one by about an inch. Line these up to match the top & bottom of your pink piece. Once lined up, top to bottom, lift them away from the pink layer & add the brad just through the Celery & scallop/blue layers.
So far no adhesive is used except on the narrow blue strip & the scalloped DSP piece.
Step 3
Add adhesive below the Celery piece - just on the DSP.
Adhere to the main Pink card base. The Celery layer will not be adhered at all. This is the hinged part.
Step 4
To keep the hinge from falling down, place a triangle of dimensionals at the edge of the blue layer.
Add your punched bunny layer over the dimensionals.
You could add any stamped image instead of a punch art piece.
Anything works here! Have fun with it & please post a link to your own hinge card in the comments section of my blog.
